26. Davis, Alan, M, Software Requirements - Analysis & Specification, Prentice Hall, 1990

This is one of the best references available on the craft of writing software requirements specifications (SRSs). Al Davis is a legend in this area. He was the chairperson of the IEEE Software Requirements Working Group that created the original landmark IEEE software requirements specification standard [27]. This standard is currently in use by thousands of practitioners all over the world. The book provides a comprehensive coverage of problem analysis techniques and analysis methods. Modeling techniques covered include structured analysis, object modeling, finite state machines, decision trees, decision tables and Petri Nets. He also covers the specification of nonbehavioural requirements in some detail. The formats of the IEEE and US DOD SRS standards are also included.
